“Hi there, how can I help you?” I say this a ton during my shift and generally people tend to have similar questions so I compiled some frequently asked questions that us front desk student staff get while working:
Do you have a stapler I can use?
Why yes, we do have a stapler you can use. In fact, just last semester we had some 40-50 students come in and request the usage of our stapler. You can also acquire a stapler from anywhere in the Wedge including but not limited to the Tutoring Center, SIT office, Admissions office, and One Stop Student Services.
Where has the FYE office moved to?
The First Year Experience office, now the Students In Transition office, has moved to where the KMC used to be which is right across from the Admissions front desk sitting out in the Wedge and is 42 Solon Campus Center.
I am looking for a job where should I go?
If you are looking for a job on campus I would direct you to the https://employment.umn.edu webpage, this site has on and off campus jobs posted for work study and non-work study positions. I could also direct you to http://goldpass.umn.edu/ where you can look for part time and full time jobs, paid and unpaid internships, and summer employment opportunities. Both sites you can upload your resume, cover letter, and any references you have.
I need to take a strengths test thing, can I do that here?
Yes, you are in the right place, you can get your StrengthsQuest code here and you can also take our other two assessments the Strong Interest Inventory and the Myers Briggs Personality type Indicator. As a UMD student each assessment only costs a minor fee of $15.
I have a resume, is there someone here that can look it over?
In fact there is, Monday -Friday from 8 am to 4:30 pm there will be at least one peer educator available to critique and look over your resume. Can’t come in, then you can fill out a resume request form and email or drop it off and someone will look it over and it can be emailed back to you or you can pick it up. Here is the link to the form, http://d.umn.edu/careers/services/critique.html.
Is there a copy of your handbook online?
Why yes it is, if you do not want to carry around our wonderful handbook full of priceless tips and information, or if you just want to save some paper then go here: http://d.umn.edu/careers/handbook/index.html and download the PDF.
