Greetings and salutations my friends, my name is David, but most students know me as “Victory” around campus.

I worked as a Peer Educator starting Fall 2013 through Spring 2017.

I graduated and double majored in Communication and Psychology.

My favorite place in Duluth would have to be the Lakewalk because it is the perfect place to be. You have the beautiful lake right next to you while having the lively city on the other side. It’s such a calm and soothing place to be at any time whether you’re having a depressing or delightful day.

The best career advice I’ve received was to capitalize on my strengths instead of improving my weaknesses. Throughout my entire education career I’ve always worked on my weaknesses in order to broaden my skills, but upon taking my StrengthsQuest I finally realize that it’s more efficient to excel in my strengths.

One piece of advice I would give is to simply be open and engaging in everything you do. Don’t be afraid to try new things or take risks because you’ll never know where each door leads you. In the future, you don’t want to be that person thinking to yourself, “What would have happened if I would have applied to that job?” or even, “what would have happened if I had given that person a chance in the office?” In the end, it never hurts to try new things and more importantly scary things. Every new experience is a step closer to knowing who you are as an individual and I believe that personal development is one of the key recipes for success. I want to leave you all with a favorite quote of mine that inspires me every day: “The greatest glory in living lies not in never falling, but in rising every time we fall.” – Anonymous

Next Steps: Changed lives through working for AmeriCorps. David is now pursuing a graduate degree in Communication.
